has been actively involved in rock music in the south of England
for the past 10 years or so. Starting out playing with punk band
Scissorhands, Matt built up his resume by gigging regularly in London,
including shows and collaborations with musicians who would go on
to form hugely successful bands such as Scouting For Girls and New
Device. Following on from this, Matt played lead guitar in London-based
pop rock band 4Hours, before moving outside the London area to start
his own musical project.
Screaming For Scarlet, featuring Matt on vocals and guitar, formed
in 2007 from a chance meeting of musicians in Berkshire, who all
shared a common goal; to channel the best that British alternative
rock has to offer, whilst avoiding the clichés and bland stereotypes
that are dragging the music industry into decline. The band played
their first gig to a huge audience only three weeks after forming,
and quickly followed this up by recording a demo, to secure bigger
and better shows.
In the following years, Matt has gigged with his band all across
the south of England, playing with some of the best British up-and-coming
rock bands, as well as supporting international touring bands, such
as Mongoloids (USA) and Immanu EL (Sweden). An EP, titled Five Lights,
was released in Feb 2011, and received great praise from reviewers
and broadcasters, and has been featured in the music press in the
UK and Europe.
The lead single, Five Lights, has been played extensively on radio
stations both in the UK and also in the USA. The track was also
selected to feature on the critically acclaimed “Punk4Japan” compilation;
a selection of tracks from the UK’s most popular punk and alternative
rock bands, with all profits being donated to the Japanese Tsunami
disaster relief effort. The band will also be playing a music festival
in August 2011 to support the homeless charities, and will also
be playing an exclusive concert to close the fresher’s week celebrations
at Brunel University, one of England’s top international universities.
